Multikosmos: A Success Story
“In times of need, we come together more closely”
St. Anton am Arlberg is known far beyond Austria’s borders as a legendary ski resort. Lush green meadows in summer or snow-capped mountains in winter are what most people think of first when they hear the name. But in August 2024, severe storms rocked the idyllic region. Heavy rain triggered mudslides in parts of the Landeck and Innsbruck-Land districts, causing widespread flooding. St. Anton (Landeck district) closed mountain railways and roads, bringing daily life to a standstill for a moment. During those days, it became clear how quickly a familiar living environment can turn into a crisis zone—and how crucial solidarity is when the familiar suddenly collapses.

Mudslides around St. Anton am Arlberg
Mudslides are not a new phenomenon for St. Anton. Prolonged heavy rainfall had already triggered mudslides in 1986, 2005, and 2018.¹ However, the mudslides of 2024 reached new proportions. Video footage showed how the water level of the Rosanna—a river in the Austrian Alps—rose dramatically. The mudslides and the resulting floodwaters caught the village’s residents completely off guard. Martin Ebster, director of the St. Anton am Arlberg Tourism Association, reported on this in a letter to Multikraft: “For the first time in decades, the pedestrian zone was flooded. In addition, approximately 100,000 cubic meters of debris and rubble have invaded scenic areas. Particularly severe damage was inflicted on tourist, municipally owned, and private infrastructure.” The western part of the town was hit especially hard. Sediment dislodged by a large mudslide caused two streams to burst their banks. This led to flooded basements and streets, as well as raging streams throughout the town. Around 350 volunteers from the fire department, mountain rescue, and the Red Cross were on the scene. They pumped out basements, removed debris, and secured roadways.²

Impressively rapid damage control
Disasters like this highlight just how crucial unity and solidarity are. Thanks to the efforts of the local community and first responders, normal life in the village was restored surprisingly quickly. Not only the guests but also the media were impressed by the speed of the response. Just one week after the disaster, St. Anton was able to breathe a sigh of relief; the majority of the village had been cleared of the landslide debris. Even though the area recovered quickly, it was clear to the crisis management team and those in charge that there had been enormous financial damage. ³ To mitigate this damage as much as possible, Maria Egger quickly stepped in to help. The Tyrolean, who runs her own department store, Egger, in Inzig, showed her support by initiating a spontaneous relief effort. Multikraft provided the necessary products, which brought tangible hope and relief to many of those affected in this exceptional situation. Maria Egger has been selling Multikraft products in her department store for over 30 years. Quick, unbureaucratic assistance in an emergency
In a situation where many basements and garages were affected by water, mud, and moisture, rapid assistance was needed. In response, Multikraft provided eMB Active, which was used in the affected areas. The product is well-suited for this purpose because it breaks down organic residues, reduces odors, and has a positive effect when used to treat damp surfaces after flooding—such as in basements and garages. Martin Ebster received a great deal of positive feedback on this from the public and from businesses in the region. “We distributed the product to about 30 businesses, including a large 4-star hotel in St. Anton am Arlberg. We’re very pleased with the positive feedback, as it means we were able to help those affected, at least a little,” he explains in an interview.

With her in-depth knowledge, enthusiasm, and great empathy, she stood by those affected as a dedicated expert on Multikraft products. And this wasn’t the first time. Maria Egger recalls that back in 2005, after the major flooding, she had already worked with Multikraft eMB to provide aid to those affected. The distribution of the products—provided free of charge and without red tape—took place in cooperation with the municipality and the Inzing Fire Department. This effort left a lasting impression, so much so that Maria Egger once again provided assistance in this way during the mudslide disaster in St. Anton am Arlberg in 2024. For her, involving eMB Aktiv in this situation was a matter of course.
