Initial treatment for natural ponds and bathing lakes

To bring about dominance of regenerative microbiology, permanently reduce decomposition processes and start sludge removal, carrying out several treatments (3 to 5 times) in the first year has proved effective

Initial treatments

  • L
  • L
  • Effective Microorganisms Active
  • eMB Starter

Application

Mix EM Active and eMB Starter with water then dilute so that the solution can be optimally used on the entire pond surface. (Mix the specified quantity of EM Active and eMB Starter with pond water at a ratio of at least 1:5 and spray onto the pond surface.)

TIMING AND FREQUENCY

Treatments can be carried out throughout the year but the water temperatures should not be below 5 °C. However, most treatments are started in the spring or autumn. Treatments should be carried out at intervals of around 4 weeks until conversion of oxygen-depleting organic sludge into a green or reddish-brown, odourless sludge is complete. Treatments can then be reduced.

TIP

For the initial treatment, we also recommend the use of 100 kg of Bokashi dried without husks, which is applied to areas with the greatest incidence of sludge.

Follow-up treatment for a stable balance

Further treatments maintain the regenerative microbiology and promote sludge removal.

Follow-up treatment

  • Effective Microorganisms Active
  • eMB Starter

Application

Mix EM Active and eMB Starter with water then dilute so that the solution can be optimally used on the entire pond surface. (Mix the specified amount of EM Aktiv and eMB Starter with pond water in a ratio of at least 1:5.)

TIMING AND FREQUENCY

Depending on the severity of the slime, the treatments should be continued at least once a year.

TIP

Treatments should ideally be in spring.

Additional treatment with EM-Dangos

The EM-Dangos are used for rapid slime reduction in ponds and waters.

Additional treatment for slime reduction

Application

For 50 to 60 fist-sized balls: Mix 20 kg of primary rock flour, 1 kg of EM ceramic powder and 5 L of EM Active well and form fist-sized balls. Leave them to ferment for at least 2-4 weeks without direct sunlight in a well-ventilated place (e.g. attic, hayloft, garage) at at least 15 °C until brown-black spots form. Add the EM-Dangos to shallow water zones and plant areas in bathing waters, and distribute evenly throughout the entire pond in the case of heavily silted fish waters.

TIMING AND FREQUENCY

For bathing pools: 2 to 3 times a year. For fishing ponds with severe sludge: 2 to 3 times a year.

TIP

If stored for a long period, they also develop white mould, similar to the mould that occurs in cheese production.
