Nature is fascinating. How wonderful it is to watch a tiny seed grow into a little plant! It’s especially exciting to watch the plants you’ve sown yourself grow and thrive. If you tend to them every day on your windowsill, the seeds will soon sprout into little seedlings. We’ll show you how to use eggshells as seedling pots.
First, collect some eggshells. Rinse them with water and let them dry for a few days. Now ask an adult to help you poke a small hole in the bottom of each shell. This allows water to drain out and prevents waterlogging. Then place the eggshells in an egg carton or in various egg cups so they don’t tip over.
Fill the eggshells with peat-reduced black soil for flowers and herbs. The plant seeds should be treated with EM ceramic powder before sowing. To do this, place the desired number of seeds in an empty pickle jar with one tablespoon of EM ceramic powder. Screw the lid on and shake everything vigorously; the seeds are now treated and ready to be sown.
Plant the treated seeds in the soil and then water them thoroughly. The easiest way to do this is to fill a spray bottle with water and add 1 capful of Multikraft Roots. Spray the seeds generously; the soil should be thoroughly moistened. Now spray them every one to two days and keep the soil consistently moist.
After a few weeks, you’ll be able to admire the first results and transplant the seedlings—along with the eggshell—into the garden bed or a pot. The calcium in the shell also serves as a great fertilizer for the plants.
