Karl Totter
Ensilage with EM

Agriculturist Karl Totter runs a pig farm with 990 fattening places. He has been working at the farm since 1992 and took over operation in 2007. The agricultural area consists of 65 hectare. He is reporting to Multikraft how and why he uses Effective Microorganisms in farming and pig fattening.

In 2004 Mr. Totter encountered Effective Microorganisms due to problems with the corn silage in the hot summer months. The problems had been solved in just a few days by means of a consultation of an EM-dealer and the use of EM products.

Karl Totter’s EM application:
For each cubic meter of corn silage, 1 liter of MK Multisil is added. This occurs during the milling process. Two additional liters of MK Multisil are sprayed on the top of the silage. Thus there is no noxious fermentation in the silo and the surface losses when opening the silos are very low.

Karl Totter is convinced of EM: "Effective Microorganisms have many advantages. By using EM, the acid formation is accelerated and the optimum pH value is reached faster. Due to the EM treatment, the food is much more valuable and can already be fed the day after. Secondary fermentation does not exist on EM treated silage!"

Additionally to the silage Mr. Totter uses EM products also in feeding. Around 0.5% Multikraft Fermented herbs extract are admixed with the total ration (equals 5 l of Fermented herbs extract per ton). As a result, floating surface layers are eliminated and the harassment due to flies in the stalls is non-existent. "Feed conversion ratio has improved significantly, feed intake increased and therefore losses are reduced.

Karl Totter’s hint for EM-users:
Do not economize on the amount of EM-products. All proves advantageous to the animals and thus benefits the humans.
