Making silage with EM


The Hannes Pock farm has been owned by the Pock family for 400 years, and has used Effective Microorganisms since 1997. Johann Pock breeds and fattens pigs together with his parents and partner, and also tends 140 hectares of land. He told Multikraft how and why he uses Effective Microorganisms for both agriculture and keeping pigs.

„We've been using Effective Microorganisms in maize silage since the year 2000. Our whole-grain silage is supplemented with three to four litres of MK Multisil per cubic metre via a metering device. This produces a sound and appetising silage. Since we've been using silage with Effective Microorganisms, feed utilisation has improved among our piglets and feeding pigs and we've had fewer losses.

We came across EM and Multikraft somewhat by chance. We started with the feed and were impressed by the effects. That's why we've gradually been using the products in other areas too.

From fields to slurry, we use EM throughout the entire cycle: It starts with silage for feed and extends over the entire farm. By treating our sties, we have a good climate inside them, no stable flies and we've noticed a general increase in the well-being of the pigs. We also treat the slurry with EM, which is an excellent method of re-use as the plants can then digest the slurry more easily and it provides an excellent basis for the next batch of silage."
