How EM work in the garden
Effective Microorganisms have diverse and valuable ecological characteristics:
- They enhance the microbial soil activity,
- strengthen the plants’ immune systems,
- loosen the soil and thus make it better able to absorb water and more fertile,
- make nutrients available to plants, without polluting the environment,
- improve plants’ bacteria, fruits and maturity,
- intensify the colours of the plants,
- increase the shelf lives of fruit and vegetables,
- create an environment that suppresses putrefactive bacteria.
Instructions
Preparing flower boxes
Even in flower boxes it is important to provide plants with an ideal basis for vegetation. Effective Microorganisms enrich the earth and help plant growth.
Preparation:
| 5% Bio Bokashi Terra | = 1.0 l |
| 1.5% Mest Best | = 0.3 l |
| 93.5% potting soil | = 18.7 l |
| total | = 20.0 l |
Mix, water with EM-Solution, made up of 0.3 l EM-Active (EMa) to 3 litres of water, leave for 14 days and then sow or plant. Of course you can use Bio Bokashi potting soil as well. It already contains all these important components and is ready for use.
Regular treatment:
Water with EM-Solution 1:1000 (= 1 ml EM-Active per 1 l water), add 15 EM-Ceramic grey Pipes or 1 EM-Ceramic 35 mm Pipe to the watering can (10 l).
Plant reinforcement
Spray the leaves until they drip every 2-3 weeks with the following solution:
40 ml EM-Active (EMa)
4 ml MK 5
4 ml Fermented Plant Extract
10 g EM-Ceramic Powder
2 l water
Fertiliser
Spread one handful of Mest Best on the soil for each flower box once a month.
Soil improvement in flower and vegetable beds as well as raised beds
Bokashi (EM compost) is gently worked in to the soil on the surface approx. two weeks before planting or seeding and watered with some EM-Active (EMa). This is especially important for sapping plants or bushes. The treatment stimulates weed growth. Weeds are removed before seeding and planting, so that the young plants can develop well, with significantly less competition from other plants.
The soil is also invigorated. EM-Active (EMa) help germination, root formation, blossoms, fructification and fruit ripening. It also improves the soil’s physical, chemical and biological condition and accelerates composting.
Regular watering:
10 ml EM-Active (EMa) in 10 l water
Cultivation:
Bokashi gives the soil lots of organic compounds. Spraying with EM-Active creates a stable environment more quickly and promotes the conversion of the organic compounds into topsoil.
Basic treatment per 10 m2
10 – 20 kg Bio Bokashi Terra (of course, home-made bokashi can also be used) and apply 1 kg basal rock dust, then water with a mixture of:
5 g EM-Ceramic Powder
200 ml EM-Active (EMa)
10 l water
Then cover with mulch or gently worked in on the surface. For use without Bokashi, the quantities of ceramic powder, basal rock dust and EM-Active should be doubled.
Spray:
Regular spraying with EM increases the plants’ and the lawns’ resistance power, i.e. they are less susceptible to disease and pests. The Effective Microorganisms create an environment on the surface of the plants that viruses avoid. The basal rock dust forms an additional housing for EM. The silicon in the basal rock dust optimises the effectiveness of the solar radiation. EM-Ceramic Powder causes constant growth in the fruits.
Basic treatment per 10 m2
40 ml EM-Active (EMa)
4 ml MK 5
4 ml Fermented Plant Extract
10 g EM-Ceramic Powder
2 l water
Stir the EM-Ceramic Powder with a small amount of EM-Active (EMa) into a smooth, liquid matter. Then add the rest of the EM-Active (EMa), Fermented Plant Extract and the water. This solution should be used every 3-4 weeks. Spray the plants until they drip. When in blossom, we recommend reducing the dosage to one third. In the case of pest or fungal infestation, spray daily until the problem has been solved.
Mulch treatment:
EM-Active (EMa) help the composting process and stop decomposition.
Spray solution per 10 m2
60 ml EM-Active (EMa)
0.6 l water
Spray EM-Active (EMa) solution when mulching. Mulch in the morning dew or in the evening, not in strong sunlight.
Coat tree trunk:
Applying the paste to the tree trunk stops pests that hibernate in the trunk. Lesions or entrances for fungi and bacteria are closed and their spores stopped. The sunlight is strongly reflected by the paste’s light grey colour, which reduces variations in temperature.
1 part EM-Ceramic Powder,
5 parts extra-fine basal rock dust
some EM-Active (EMa)
Cellulose wallpaper paste or waterglass
Mix ingredients into a viscous paste. Apply to the trunk in autumn or in spring (until mid-March).
