QUANTITIES AND AVERAGE APPLICATION

Lined ponds under 40 m²

(For ponds under 40 m², relatively more EM-Active is needed to stabilise the pond water.)

EM-Active 1 l per 1,000 l pond water (per treatment)
Rock meal 2 kg (per treatment, regardless of water volume)
EM-Ceramic Powder 400 g (only for treatment in spring)

Lined ponds over 40 m²

EM-Active 1 l per 10,000 l pond water (per treatment)
Rock meal 2 kg (per treatment, regardless of water volume)
EM-Ceramic Powder 1 kg (only for treatment in spring)

Instructions:

Mix the 3 products well at a ratio of at least 1:1 with water in a watering can with a rose, so that the basal rock dust remains dissolved. Mainly distribute the mixture in the planting zones and in the filter system, in the borders and in the bodies of water.

The Effective Microorganisms distribute themselves through the pond via the basal rock dust and sink slowly into the earth. The specified quantity is applied with one treatment.

Using EM-Ceramics

stabilises the water quality and creates the ideal environment for treating the water or pool. Using EM-Ceramics (EM-Ceramic grey Pipes combined with EM-Ceramic 35 mm Pipes) accelerates the removal of organic substances – by reducing the water cluster and thus reducing the water’s surface tension – and leads to sustainable improvement of the water quality.

Always install EM-Ceramics in moving parts of the pond (i.e. at the end of waterways, at fountains, etc.) so that the water can flow through the EM-Ceramics and energise. Spread the EM-Ceramics in bags or on strings in the filter or in other areas where the water flows. Always use the specified number of grey pipes together with 35 mm pipes.

Timing of EM use

When should EM be used?

- in autumn (at 5 °C water temperature)

- in spring (at 5 °C water temperature)

- in summer (as soon as you notice a slight change to the water quality)

- in autumn (at 5 °C water temperature)

How often should EM be used?

- in the first season: 4-5 treatments (every 4-6 weeks)

- in the following seasons: approx. 3 times per season

The optimal time for pond treatment

Autumn treatment:

the ideal time for initially treating the pond is when the cold water temperature is 5 °C. Initial treatments in autumn have displayed the best results. The Effective Microorganisms work more slowly on the pond floor and in the alluvium layer during the winter, but in the spring, they have a definite head start over the other pathogenic or oxygen-depleting organisms.

Spring treatment:

As soon as the ice has melted and the water is above 5 ℃, we recommend carrying out the spring treatment – the earlier, the better.

Initial treatment in summer:

If the first EM treatment is in summer (with water temperature of over 20 degrees), we recommend halving the quantity of EM-Active and carrying out two treatments, 2 weeks apart. In this way, the existing microorganism population is not unsettled.

Permanent pond treatment with EM-Dangos

Formulation 50-60 fist-sized balls:

  • 20 kg Biolit rock meal (alternatively: Diabas)
  • 1 kg EM Ceramic Powder
  • 5 l of EM-Active (EMa)

Manufacturing:
mix well and form fist-sized balls. Place them at least 2 to 4 weeks without direct sunlight in a well ventilated place (e.g. roof or loft, garage), ferment for at least 15°C, until they form brown-black dots. After a long storage, they also develop white mold, similar to the white mold in cheese production.

Application amount:

  • in smaller biotopes:
    1 Dango/m2
  • in lakes from 400 to 500 m2:
    1 Dango / 4m2

Frequency of use:
depending on the pollution

  • for swimming ponds:
2 to 3 times per year in areas of shallow water and plants zone
  • fish ponds with sludge:
2 to 3 times per year distributed evenly in the pond
