The effects of Effective Microorganisms in vegetable cultivation
Increases the harvest, while reducing operational costs, because:
- the health and fertility of the soil is promoted
- the development of the humus (formation of the clay-humus complex) is increased
- the biological activity of the soil is vitalised – many worms populate the earth
- the moisture and nutrient retention capacity of the soil is improved
- thanks to the quicker warming of the earth in spring, vegetation begins earlier (EM earth is 3 – 4 °C warmer)
- root growth is simulated and the plants’ level of resistance is increased
- fertiliser costs are reduced thanks to more readily available nutrients
Increases the quality of the vegetables and the plants, because:
- the vegetables look better and have better colouring
- the vegetables are characterised by their outstanding taste
- the vegetables mature more evenly and are of a standard size.
- the vegetables contain more antioxidants and bioactive substances such as vitamins, trace elements, etc.
- fewer crop shortfalls
- The harvest can be stored for much longer.
Instructions
Add EM-Bokashi (EM compost) to improve soil.
Bokashi gives the soil lots of organic compounds. Spraying with EM-Active creates a stable environment more quickly and promotes the conversion of the organic compounds into topsoil.
Do you want to produce Bokashi yourself? Here are the instructions.
First step: Apply self-manufactured Bokashi and basal rock dust to the vegetable patches.
Quantity per ha.
10 – 20 t Bokashi, depending on the material available
1 – 2 t basal rock dust
Second step: Spray the following EM-Solution over the Bokashi and then work in using a cultivator or disc harrow:
Quantity per ha.
60 l EM-Active
300 – 600 l water
Additional intensive treatment (in the case of high pest and/or fungal infection strain) per ha:
5 kg EM-Ceramic Powder
Completely dissolve the EM-Ceramic Powder in a small amount of EM-Active, then stir into all the EM-Active and water. A high-pressure sprayer with a continuous agitator suspends the ceramic powder.
Alternatively, you can add the EM-Active (thinly diluted with water) and the ceramic powder to the Bokashi (EM compost) during the first step. This saves the second step.
Time and frequency
This measure must be taken at least 14 days before seeding or planting occurs, in order to neutralise the pH value.
Bokashi and spraying the EM-Solution stimulates germination of mulch plant seeds. This mulch plant can then be mechanically processed (with a currycombs or rakes).
Plant remains to improve the soil
Plant remains left in the field give the soil valuable organic compounds. Spraying the green manure with EM-Active immediately before putting it into the soil, heavily promotes the conversion of the organic substances and prevents decomposition processes in the soil.
Quantity per ha.
60 l EM-Active
300 – 600 l water
Spray the plant remains with this EM-Solution, preferably in the evening or in the morning (not in strong sunlight) and immediately put them into the soil.
Regular spraying of plants
Regular spraying with Effective Microorganisms increases the plants’ resistance power, i.e. they are less susceptible to disease and pests. The Effective Microorganisms create an environment on the surface of the plants that viruses avoid. The basal rock dust forms an additional housing for the Effective Microorganisms and the silicon in the basal rock dust optimises the effectiveness of the solar radiation. The EM-Ceramic Powder causes constant growth in the fruits.
Basic treatment per ha.
30 l EM-Active
300 l water
5 kg extra-fine basal rock dust
Additional intensive treatment (in the case of high pest and/or fungal infection strain) per ha:
1 kg EM-Ceramic Powder
0.5 l MK 5
0.5 l Fermented Plant Extract
Stir the extra-fine basal rock dust and the EM-Ceramic Powder with a small amount of EM-Active into a smooth, liquid matter. As soon as all of the stone dust has been dissolved, the rest of the EM-Active and the water and, if necessary, additional MK 5 and Fermented Plant Extract are added. A high-pressure sprayer with a continuous agitator suspends the powder.
Time and frequency
Every 1 – 3 weeks, depending on the type of vegetable and the vitality of the plants. Spray in the evening, not in direct sunlight.
Watering
Water quantity varies depending on type of vegetable, moisture conditions and ground conditions
Mixture ratio:
1 l of EM-Active to 1000 l of irrigation water (1:1000) or 30 l EM-Active / ha. / week
Treating young plants
To encourage root formation, the roots are quickly dipped in an EM-Solution of 1:200 (EM-Active: water) and placed in the earth.
Seed treatment
Treating the seeds with Effective Microorganisms reduces the germination period, increases germination capacity and causes the seeds to grow evenly. The Effective Microorganisms create an environment on the surface of the seeds that viruses avoid.
Moisten seeds in the agitator with an EM-Solution (EM-Active + water at a ratio of 1:1)
and then, using a mixture of:
3 parts extra-fine basal rock dust and
1 part EM-Ceramic Powder,
mix until the seeds are fluid.
