Instructions
Oxalic acid vaporiser
Use to remove mites, outside the breeding season if possible, depending on the climatic conditions at the location from
15 October to 31 January.
There are some exceptions:
- As a result of high snow conditions, application can occur until the first cleansing flight.
- Young population expansion without needing a possible honey harvest this year.
- Hive treatment without needing a possible honey harvest this year.
Preparation:
- Prepare vaporising hotplate (EMF evaporation construction set or other approved device)
- Source of energy (12 volt car battery or battery charger)
- Prepare protective mask with ABE1 filter, glasses and suitable acid-resistant plastic gloves
- Cut foam plastic strips to seal the flight holes
The treatment should be carried out when there are as few bees as possible and not under +2 °C.
Seal the first population with foam plastic, warm the hotplate in advance, take safety precautions for the handler (use mask, goggles, gloves and protective clothing). Place one EMF oxalic acid tablet per hive on the vaporiser, insert the prepared population, seal well and turn on the hotplate. After approx. 4 – 5 minutes, the EMF oxalic acid tablet will have melted and vaporised into a fine aerosol. The hotplate is turned off and the population remains closed for a total of 10 minutes so that the aerosol can spread thoroughly and take effect.
Then quickly cool the hotplate with the vaporiser (water) and immediately treat the next population. After completing the treatment, insert the base plate and check mite reduction. The effect of the EMF oxalic acid tablet lasts about 10 days. Most mite reduction occurs 4 days after treatment. After treatment, clean all utensils such as the vaporiser, gloves, mask, etc. with a gentle soda solution (1 teaspoon sodium carbonate in one litre of water).
Adding EM-Concentrate
To strengthen the bees, add 20 ml EM-Concentrate to 10 litres of water in the drinking trough.
